WATERVILLE — Waterville won its fifth Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B baseball championship in a row Saturday with a 4-1 victory over Lincoln Academy at Thomas College.

The Purple Panthers got a strong pitching performance from sophomore Dalton Wood who allowed two hits over five innings before giving way to Adam Barre for the final two innings.

“It was a great outing,” Waterville coach Don Sawyer said. “He fought through a couple of innings with a little control problems but he always fought back.

Waterville scored two runs in the fifth off Lincoln starter A.J. Oliver. Following a single from Benny Cox and a double by Danny Pooler. Cam Gardner delivered a two-run base hit. A.J. Godin added a two-run single in the sixth. Kaleb Kane had two hits for the Purple Panthers while Brett Cowan had a pair for the Eagles. Waterville played errorless defense, getting strong games from Godin at short and Gardner at second.

BOYS TENNIS

OCEANSIDE 4, ERSKINE 1: The sixth-seeded Eagles had their run through the Eastern B tournament come to a close. Oceanside (14-0), the No. 2 seed, swept the three singles matches to reach the Eastern B final.

Erskine’s lone win came at No. 1 doubles, in which Cameron Grass and Jon Ballantyne turned back Johannes Korhonen/Jack Crockett 6-4, 6-1.

GIRLS TENNIS

WINTHROP 5, ST. DOM’S 0: The fourth-seeded Winthrop girls tennis team knocked off top-seeded St. Dominic on Saturday in the semifinal round of the Western Maine Class C tournament.

The Ramblers (11-2) got wins from Megan Chamberlain and Jess Ames at second and third singles, respectively, while the second doubles team of Corrina Coulton and Sarah Spahr defeated Zoe Caron and Claire Kramer 6-3, 6-0. Winthrop plays No. 3 Waynflete for the regional title Thursday at Bates College.

St. Dom’s finishes at 13-1.

WAYNFLETE 5, HALL-DALE 0: The third-seeded Flyers won all five matches in straight sets against the No. 2 Bulldogs in Farmingdale. Waynflete (11-2) advances to play No. 4 Winthrop in the Western Maine Class C final Thursday at Bates College. Hall-Dale finishes at 11-2.

SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 5, MARANACOOK 0: The sixth-seeded Phoenix (9-4) swept the No. 2 Black Bears in Readfield to advance to Thursday’s regional final against top-seeded Greely. Maranacook finishes at 10-4.
