WINTHROP — Ben Allen struck out five and walked none in six innings to lead No. 6 Winthrop past No. 11 Old Orchard Beach 9-0 in a Western Class C prelim baseball game Tuesday.
Both Mario Meucci and Dakota Carter finished with a single and a double for the Ramblers, while Bennett Brooks, Cabot Lancaster and Allen each chipped in with a pair of singles.
Winthrop (11-6) will next play Thursday against third-seeded St. Dominic, which had a bye in the opening round of the tournament.
SOFTBALL
PRESQUE ISLE 10, ERSKINE 3: The Eagles gave up six runs in the bottom of the first inning and were bounced from the Eastern B playoffs by the Wildcats (12-5).
Taylor Boucher led Erskine with a single and a double. Amber Grady, Avery Bond and Taylor McLaggan each had two singles in the loss.
Erskine finishes the season at 7-10, while Presque Isle advances to play top-seeded Gardiner in the quarters Thursday.
BOYS LACROSSE
No. 4 MT. ARARAT 8, No. 5 CONY 5: In Topsham, the Eagles won the rubber match between the two teams in an Eastern Maine Class A quarterfinal game in Topsham. Jon Saban led the Rams with two goals and Austin Davis added a goal and two assists, Bronson Kieltyka and John Bennett a goal apiece and Alex Stilphen an assist. Isaac Gingras made nine saves in goal for Cony (8-5). Mt. Ararat (9-4) advances to play top-seeded Brunswick.
