GARDINER — Brittany Rollins scattered six hits and struck out 11 to lead top-seeded Gardiner to a 4-1 win against No. 8 Presque Isle in Eastern Maine Class B quarterfinal softball action Thursday.

The Tigers (17-0) scored three runs in the second inning when Rollins singled and scored on a fielder’s choice by Nicole Chadwick and two runs came home following a single by freshman Julia Nadeau. In the fifth, Bri Brochu tripled and scored on a passed ball.

Brochu added a single while Rollins singled twice. Jillian Flynn had a pair of hits for the Wildcats, who finish at 12-6. Gardiner advances to host No. 4 Nokomis in a semifinal game scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday.

MOUNTAIN VALLEY 10, WINTHROP 1: Too many errors and not enough offense cost the Ramblers as they fell to the Falcons in a Western Maine Class C quarterfinal game in Winthrop.

Krissy Doughty struck out nine Falcons despite suffering the loss, while catcher Cat Ouellette had a single and a double. Lily Ouellette and Kaleigh Oberg had the only other hits for the Ramblers, who finish the season at 12-6.

The Falcons will play Hall-Dale in the Western C semifinals Saturday.

BASEBALL

DIRIGO 9, HALL-DALE 3: The seventh-seeded Bulldogs were bounced from the Western Maine Class C tournament following a loss in the quarterfinals in Dixfield.

Hall-Dale led 2-1 after three innings but Dirigo took the lead for good after plating four runs in the fourth. Ryan Sinclair led the Bulldogs with three singles, while Brian Allen and Alex McPherson each had two singles.

Hall-Dale finishes the season at 10-8.

ST. DOMINIC 12, WINTHROP 2, 5 INNINGS: The third-seeded Saints scored at least two runs in every inning to eliminate the Ramblers from the Western Maine Class C tournament in a game that lasted just five innings due to the mercy rule.

Mike Keney led the way for St. Dom’s by going 2-for-2 with five RBIs, while Ben Allen had a triple for Winthrop.

The Ramblers finish the season 12-7, while the Saints will face No. 2 Dirigo in the Western C semifinals Saturday.
