In reading the June 14 article, “Child abuse in Maine increases 58%,” one realizes that Maine is at an all-time social low point when it comes to drug and alcohol abuse.

All one has to do is read the police logs to see that domestic violence and robberies are mostly a result of drug and alcohol abuse and stupidity.

This trend is worsening despite the ongoing law enforcement efforts.

I admit I was stupid in my younger years, but at some point I had to realize, to quote from the movie “Animal House,” that “drunk and stupid is no way to go through life.”

Maine would have a major reduction in crime if people would just decide to do something positive and productive with their lives.

Using drugs and alcohol to avoid life only makes their problems worse.

The real satisfaction and emotional strength comes from making something of your life.

Everyone should be accountable for their own behavior.

Exercise is a much better stress reliever than drugs or alcohol.

Living every day under the influence, lazy and producing nothing, is a waste of time and resource for everyone.
