ANSON— The driver of an all-terrain vehicle that crashed into a building on Willow Street was taken to the hospital by LifeFlight helicopter Thursday night, according to the Anson Fire Chief.

“He appeared to have been riding at a high rate of speed and crashed while heading into a turn,” Fire Chief Jeremy Manzer said.

The man, whose name was not available, was pinned under the ATV when rescue crews arrived and was unresponsive, he said.

The accident was reported at 7:13 p.m. The driver was taken by ambulance to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan and then transported by LifeFlight helicopter to another hospital. Manzer said he was not sure what hospital he was transferred to.

It is illegal to ride an ATV on a public road in most circumstances.

The Maine Warden Service also responded but could not be reached for comment late Thursday.
