A Scarborough High School student was arrested Tuesday after school officials found a spring-loaded switchblade knife in his backpack.

Jonathan Germano, 18, was arrested without incident at the school after students told a bus driver they had seen him sharpening a knife during the ride to school. Germano was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and trafficking in dangerous knives.

After the bus driver reported the possible presence of a knife to school officials, Germano was pulled from class, according to Scarborough police. Once in the principal’s office, a black K-Bar style knife was found inside a sheath tied to the outside of Germano’s boot and concealed under his pant leg.

In a posting on the Scarborough police Facebook page, concerned parents were urged to contact the school principal with questions.
