HALLOWELL — Councilor Alan Stearns of Pleasant Street, executive director of the Royal River Conservation Trust in Yarmouth, topped Christopher Walters, a filmmaker from Middle Street, by a vote of 694-580.
Stearns has led the city’s effort to rebuild Water Street as head of the council’s Highway Committee. Earlier this year, councilors passed an agreement with the state, which will begin work years from now.
For a seat in Hallowell’s northern Ward 1, Kate Dufour of Lincoln Street beat Larry Morrissette of Page Street, by a vote of 168-72. Both would have been newcomers to Hallowell’s council, but Dufour has years of experience as a lobbyist for the Maine Municipal Association, an advocacy group for cities and towns.
Two councilors, Phillip Lindley and Lisa Harvey-McPherson, won re-election in unopposed races, respectively, in Hallowell’s central Ward 3 and Ward 5 on the west side of the Maine Turnpike. Shawna Corbett won re-election to her seat on Regional School Unit 2’s board as a write-in candidate.
