FARMINGTON — Meghan Smith scored 15 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds to lead the University of Maine-Farmington girls basketball team to a 74-65 win over Thomas at Dearborn Gymnasium.

Kennadi Grover added 19 points and seven rebounds for the Beavers (5-9, 5-3 North Atlantic Conference). Ashleigh Gagne led all scorers with 24 points and six rebounds for the Terriers (1-13, 0-8).

WILLIAMS 74, COLBY 66: Ellen Cook drilled five 3-pointers en route to 28 points to lead Williams to a NESCAC win over Colby in Williamstown, Mass.

Kellie MacDonald added 15 points for the Ephs (14-3, 2-2 NESCAC). Mia Diplock led Colby (11-4, 2-2) with 18 points while Carylanne Wolfington chipped in with 16 points and Brooke Chandor 11.

MAINE 58, STONY BROOK 55: Sigi Kolzar and Liz Wood combined for 40 points to lead the Black Bears to the America East win over Stony Brook.

Kolzar finished with a career-high 23 points while Wood added 17 points and nine rebounds for Maine (11-6, 3-1 America East).

Sabre Proctor led Stony Brook (9-8, 2-2) with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

STONY BROOK 82, MAINE 39: Carson Puriefoy scored 18 points and Roland Nyama 12 as Stony Brook raced past Maine in an America East game played in Bangor.

The Seawolves (12-7, 3-1 America East) closed the first half with a 23-0 run to lead 41-16 at halftime. Former Nokomis star Chris Braley had two points, four rebounds and an assist in 12 minutes for Stony Brook. Aaron Calixte had 11 points to lead the Black Bears (1-16, 0-5).

WILLIAMS 72, COLBY 65: Daniel Wohl tallied 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists to help Williams hand Colby its first loss in the New England Small College Athletic Conference at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Mike Greenman was 3-for-5 from 3-point range on the way to 16 points for Williams (11-5, 2-2 NESCAC). Chris Hudnut led Colby (10-6, 3-1) with 19 points, six rebounds and three assists. Luke Westman added 13 points five rebounds and three assists.

MEN’S ICE HOCKEY

TRINITY 6, COLBY 3: Liam Mckillop scored with 11 seconds left in the first period for a 3-1 lead that send Trinity to a 6-3 win over Colby at Alfond Rink.

Ryan Cole scored two goals and Nathaniel Heilbron collected 27 saves in net for the Bantams (12-1-1, 7-0-1 NESCAC). Mario Benicky, Chris Kennedy and Phil Klitirinos scored for Colby (5-8-2, 2-6-2). Emerson Verrier and Jordan Nathan split time in goal for the Mules, combining for 26 saves.

WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY

COLBY 3, CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 2: Maddie Dewhirst tipped in a loose puck with .7 seconds remaining to lift Colby College to a 3-2 win over Connecticut College in New London, Conn.

Linda Guarente and Delaney Flynn also scored for the Mules (7-7, 1-7 NESCAC). Jessica Thulin made 39 saves in net for Colby. Steph Izzi scored both goals for Connecticut College (9-3-3, 4-2-2).

ALPINE SKIING

HASKELL, WHISTLER HELP COLBY WOMEN’S ALPINE TEAM TAKE THIRD

Mardi Haskell capped off a big opening weekend by placing third in the slalom for the Colby College women’s alpine ski team at Sunday River on Saturday.

Haskell was sixth in the giant slalom on Friday and topped that with runs of 53.47 and 54.46 for a two-run total time of 1:47.93. She helped the Mules finish with 95 points and place only behind University of Vermont (120) and Dartmouth College (112) in the 13-team field. Paige Whistler earned a top-10 finish by taking 10th place with runs of 55.41 and 55.92 for a 1:51.33 total.

AMBER, WIGHT LEAD NORDIC SKI TEAMS AT BLACK MOUNTAIN

Olivia Amber placed 17th in the 5-kilometer free skate for the Colby College women and Calvin Wight was 31st to lead the men’s team at Black Mountain on Saturday at the Bates College Carnival.

Amber had a time of 15 minutes, 3.1 seconds over the 5K course. Amy Bianco placed 40th for the Mules in 15:50.0. The Colby women finished in a tie for eighth place out of 13 teams.

Wight crossed the finish line in 26:09.4 to help the Colby men place 11th out of 14 squads.
