FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington women’s basketball team overcame a 23-21 halftime deficit to help get past Johnson State 56-47 in a North Atlantic Conference game Saturday afternoon at Dearborn Gym.
Meghan Smith scored 12 points and Kelly Pomerleau added 11 to lead the Beavers (10-11, 9-5 in the NAC).
Liz Ferry grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with her five points for UMF as well.
Brittany Robertson scored 15 points to pace Johnson State (6-13, 6-8).
LYNDON STATE 67, THOMAS 50: Aimee Thompson scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lift the Hornets to the NAC victory in Waterville.
Sarah Cornell scored 11 points and Mikayla Hodge grabbed 10 rebounds for Lyndon State (6-15, 5-9).
Sarah Pepin scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Terriers (2-19, 1-13). Katie McAllister had seven points.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
LYNDON STATE 76, THOMAS 58: Rontrez Purcell scored a team-high 17 points and Robert Alers added 16 to lead Lyndon State to the North Atlantic Conference victory in Waterville.
George Carle and David Johnson each had 13 points for Lyndon State (8-12, 7-7 in NAC). Carle also had 14 rebounds.
Adam Carlsen and Eric Westbrooks each scored 13 points to pace Thomas (9-12, 7-7).
UMF 67, JOHNSON STATE 52: Mt. Blue graduate Nick Hilton scored a game-high 27 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds. Eric Berry scored nine points as well for UMF (6-15, 6-9).
Rob Hazard came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points for Johnson State (3-18, 3-11).
WOMEN’S HOCKEY
VERMONT 2, MAINE 1: Amanda Pelkey scored at 3:45 of overtime to lift the Catamounts in overtime of a Hockey East game at Alfond Arena in Orono.
Vermont (13-16-1) trailed 1-0 before Dayna Colang scored a power play goal in the second period to tie the game.
Victoria Hummel scored for the Black Bears (10-14-3).
MEN’S HOCKEY
COLBY 2, HAMILTON 2: Mario Benicky scored both goals for the Mules, but Hamilton struck in the third period to salvage the tie.
The Mules moved to 5-12-3 overall and 2-9-3 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
Sam Parker had 24 saves for Colby. Tim Nowacki made eight of his 21 saves in the second period for Hamilton.
SKIING
Mardi Haskell had her seventh top-10 finish of the season for the Colby women and Craig Marshall took 13th for the men in slalom racing at the Dartmouth Carnival.
The Colby women placed fourth with 93 points. The Mules have finished in the top four in seven of the eight carnival races.
Haskell had the second-fastest second run of 53.35 to beat the top-three finishers.
Craig Marshall secured another top-15 finish with his runs of 51.39 and 48.44 for a finishing time of 1:39.83.
