WATERVILLE — Claire Dickson collected 14 saves to lead the Colby women’s lacrosse team to a 10-5 New England Small College Athletic Conference win over Wesleyan on Saturday.
Kendall Smith led the scoring for the Mules (9-1, 4-1 NESCAC) with two goals and two assists while Abby Hatch also had two goals and one assists. At one point, Dickson and the Mules held the Cardinals without a goal for nearly 32 minutes.
MEN’S LACROSSE
EASTERN CONNECTICUT 16, SOUTHERN MAINE 6: Shawn Tierney led all scorers with four goals to send Eastern Connecticut to victory over the University of Southern Maine in both teams’ Little East Conference opener in Mansfield, Conn.
Gardiner High School alums Seth Wing and Keegan Smith led the Huskies (3-2) with three and two goals, respectively.
WESLEYAN 9, COLBY 8: Wesleyan rallied from a 6-3 halftime deficit to edge Colby in a tight NESCAC lacrosse match in Middletown, Conn.
John Grimaldi and Derek Youngman scored three goals apiece for the Mules (5-3, 2-3 NESCAC). Harry Stanton had three goals for the Cardinals (6-3, 3-1).
BASEBALL
CASTLETON SWEEPS COLBY: Castleton State ripped 14 extra base hits to take both ends of a doubleheader with Colby, 12-10 and 15-4, in Auburndale, Fla.
Tim Corey and Tommy Forese both had two hits in each game for the Mules (9-3). Corey had two doubles, two runs and two RBIs in the opener and drove in two more runs in the second game. Tyler Starks also had two hits and Nils Carlson added a double and drove in three in the first game. Forese blasted a home run and Jason Buco had two hits in the nightcap.
