ORONO — Scott Heath went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored as the University of Maine baseball team topped Thomas College 9-2 Wednesday at Mahaney Diamond.
Luke Morrill and Brett Chappell each drove in a pair of runs for Maine (10-17) as five Black Bears pitched in the win.
Nik Beeson went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Terriers (4-11), while Anree Benitez had a triple and two runs scored.
UM-FARMINGTON 6, BATES 4: The Beavers took advantage of five errors from the Bobcats to pick up a win in Lewiston.
Bradley Jackson got the win for UMF (9-4), tossing four shutout innings and allowing just two hits while striking out a pair. Tom Grady paced the Beavers’ offense and went 2-for-5 with and RBI.
Brendan Fox had three hits — including a pair of doubles — for Bates (6-8).
SOFTBALL
HUSSON 6-3, COLBY 1-2: The Eagles never trailed in either game to sweep a doubleheader with Colby in Bangor.
Megan Michie was the tough-luck loser for the Mules (5-11) in Game 2, going the distance while striking out eight and giving up three unearned runs on two hits. Husson (9-7) scored the eventual winning run in the top of the fifth after Kayla Merrill walked, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
In the opener, Deb Colpitts went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to pace the Eagles to a win. Meaghan Lewia had a home run for the Mules’ lone run of the game.
MEN’S LACROSSE
SOUTHERN MAINE 10, ST. JOSEPH’S (ME) 1: Gardiner graduate Keegan Smith had two goals and three assists while fellow former Tiger Seth Wing scored three times to lead the Huskies to a win in Gorham.
Former Maranacook/Winthrop goalie Zach Bessette made eight saves to pick up the win in goal for USM (6-2).
