I think the Skowhegan teams should consider changing their names to the Skowhegan Fishers. The fisher (Martes pennanti) is a small carnivorous mammal native to North America and is a member of the weasel family.

The name is derived from aboriginal languages that include pekan, pequam and wejack.

It is a good name and mascot that ties together Skowhegan’s great past and future.

The name change would be an act of good sportsmanship.
