A couple from Clinton was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston Sunday night following a motorcycle crash on Route 4 in Sandy River Plantation in Franklin County.

James and Rebecca Turcotte were motoring near the crossing of the Appalachian Trail at about 6:25 p.m. Sunday when their motorcycle apparently hit something in the road with its front tire and crashed, Steven Lowell, chief deputy at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, said Monday. There was no other vehicle involved.

James Turcotte, 58, was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, while Rebecca Turcotte, 53, was taken by ambulance to the hospital. Both were then taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, a hospital spokeswoman said Monday.

A woman in the communications department at the Lewiston hospital said James Turcotte was listed in fair condition Monday afternoon and Rebecca Turcotte was listed in good condition.

Lowell said speed did not appear to be a factor in the accident, and both people had been wearing helmets.
