Maine voters should have a way to impeach governors who show they are unfit for the office. Our current governor is clearly incapable of fulfilling his duties.

Governors do not get automatic approval of everything they want. State residents elect governors — not dictators.

This governor has neither the ability nor the willingness to negotiate and is therefore incapable of doing his job. The only abilities he has shown us are how to bully people; use blackmail; have temper tantrums; craft a Christmas tree solely to degrade legislators; call them names; and, when things don’t go his way, throw a hissy fit. While this is my performance evaluation of his job to date, I am confident that the majority of voters would agree with this evaluation.

This is the first governor in my lifetime to prove beyond a doubt that Maine voters need a process for removing a governor from office. He has not only tainted Maine’s reputation but is also setting a bad example for the younger generation by his actions since being elected governor. The thought of 3½ more years of his degradation of lawmakers, voters, hard-working public employees, and even firing people who have done an excellent job can only damage the image of our great state of Maine as a perfect place in which to live.

It is wrong and unreasonable to not give voters a way to remove from office anyone who clearly proves to be incapable of the job they were elected to do for Maine residents. The time has come for us to do whatever is required for changing Maine law to allow the removal of a truly incompetent elected official.
