MADISON — A 31-year-old woman was taken to the hospital Monday afternoon after a single-vehicle accident on Lakewood Road.

Heather Johnston had to be extricated from her car. Traveling north in the area of Yonder Hill Campground, she swerved into a ditch, took out a mailbox, then skidded across the road, her car coming to rest in a ditch on the southbound side, said Chief Deputy James Ross of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

Johnston was taken to the hospital by ambulance for a possible head injury, he said. A medical condition may have been a factor in the accident, Ross said. Her condition wasn’t available Monday.

The crash was reported at 1:12 p.m.

The Madison Fire Department and Skowhegan Fire Department also responded.
