Gov. Paul LePage has never lacked for making a spectacle of himself when facing his opponents and legislation he does not like. True, an argument can be made that he doesn’t seem to understand the differences about how the Legislature adjourns for the day and for the session.

But the question remains about why he would choose to use a pocket veto on 19 bills still on his desk, given his past public grandstanding with his mighty veto pen.

The state Constitution gives the executive the pocket veto at the end of a legislative session. A pocket veto is the cowardly way to oppose a bill quietly without others noticing.

Why has the governor chosen this route with these certain 19 bills? Given his personality, it is suspicious that he would take this quiet approach. Apparently, he tripped himself trying to distract the Legislature, and the people of Maine, into forgetting the controversy of these 19 bills.

Is he hoping the passage of time will cause the people to forget about why we are mad at him?

LePage needs to apologize to the Maine people, admit without excuses that he made a mistake and get back to doing the job he was elected to do.
