In regards to Stephen Hayes’ letter, “Iran treaty better than any current alternative,” published on July 25, how is one to believe progressives when even the history of our country is skewed in order to advance their agenda?
His knowledge of American history is, at best, suspect. The two political parties that emerged after the signing of the Constitution were the Federalist and the Anti-Federalist, also known as the Democratic Republicans, then the Republican Party.
This first Republican Party is now known as the Democratic Party. And, yes, it did everything that Hayes said it did.
The modern Republican Party was not formed until 1854, in response to the demise of the Whig party and Democratic support of the Dred Scott Decision, which supported slavery.
It is easy to assign blame when there is no truth.
