HIRAM — Abby Allen’s goal 1:52 into the game stood up and fourth-seeded Monmouth knocked off top-seeded and unbeaten Sacopee Valley 1-0 in Class C South soccer semifinal action on Friday night.
Allen crashed the net on Sammy Grandahl’s corner kick and got a foot on the loose ball to give the Mustangs (12-2-2) the only goal they would need. Mikayla Cameron made 13 saves in net to preserve the shutout.
“Mikayla played outstanding in goal and the rest of the team played great defense,” Monmouth coach Gary Trafton said. “Sacopee Valley is very skilled and the girls all worked together.”
Hannah Manchester stopped five shots in net for Sacopee (14-1-1).
The Mustangs will host No. 6 Waynflete (12-4-0) in the regional final next Wednesday.
