AUGUSTA — A 38-year-old former Augusta man serving time on a federal child pornography conviction faces trial in state court later this month on 12 counts of gross sexual assaults against boys.

The Kennebec Journal reports that Wade R. Hoover, a former Lewiston martial arts instructor, was in court Friday, where he signed a waiver saying he could be tried before a single judge, rather than a jury.

Hoover was working as a veterans’ support coordinator at the Maine chapter of the National Alliance for Mental Illness when he was arrested in 2012 and charged with possessing sexually explicit materials. He’s now serving a 40-year federal sentence for producing and possessing child pornography.

He’s scheduled for trial starting Nov. 30 for the alleged sexual attacks on two boys.
