I read with interest the editorial on Nov. 3 about the uninsured in Maine, “Map of uninsured puts Maine county in the Confederacy.”

A map published in The New York Times showed Washington County’s high uninsured rate on a par with that in the southern states of the former Confederacy.

I agree, lack of insurance is a driver of poor public health, both in fact and in policy. It is certainly time that we elect somebody unlike Paul LePage. His blocking of the Medicaid expansion part of the health care law has been a disaster for the state.

My hope is that the electorate will take action. Everybody who is eligible to vote should register and vote. Otherwise, this state will be represented by those who do.
