MONMOUTH — The Monmouth Fire Department recently gave six children a ride to school in fire trucks. The event capped off the National Fire Prevention Week activities which included safety presentations, trips through the smoke trailer, breakfast with Sparky the Fire Dog and an open house at the fire station.

Students at Henry L. Cottrell School in grades Pre-K through third entered a coloring contest and the winners were given a ride to school with Sparky and arrived with a police escort to a rock-star welcome from their fellow students.
