The Lewiston Police Department lost one of its officers over the weekend.

K-9 dog Chico died unexpectedly.

The department posted on its Facebook page, “It is with deep regret that we announce the unexpected passing of Lewiston Police K-9 Chico. Chico suffered a medical emergency on Christmas day which resulted in an emergency surgery. Corporal Kevin Cramp was K-9 Chico’s partner. The bond between Corporal Cramp and K-9 Chico was solid as Chico was not only part of the LPD family but Kevin’s family as well. K-9 Chico was just days away from retirement after a long and distinguished service to our community.”
