During these present times of fear and confusion, I wanted to share something wonderful.
My 13-year-old took his bike on to the rail trail from Farmingdale to ride to the enchanting candy store Scrummy Afters in Hallowell. He took his wallet with all his birthday money and gift cards in it. By the time he arrived back home, his wallet was gone. He got back on his bike to search the trail for it.
Well he did not find it because someone else did. That kind and honest person turned it in to the Hallowell police with all the money and gift cards intact. Officer Beal chose the task of searching this child out and finding the young man who lost it. The only ID in it was his name and Cub Scout pack number, but Beal was diligent and creative enough to find an address for Lucas. He came to the house and returned the wallet.
Lucas, however, was on the trail searching so he did not have an opportunity to meet Beal. When Lucas returned, he was so grateful to have his wallet back he called Beal and thanked him on his answering machine. The officer did not receive his message until late that evening but was pleased to hear from Lucas. He decided he wanted to meet this child and did just that. He made another trip to our house and this time Lucas was able to thank the officer in person.
What an inspiration to our community Beal is and what a wonderful lesson of faith, integrity and thankfulness that Lucas was given. God bless the person who found Lucas’s wallet and turned it in and God bless Beal.
Never lose faith — there are so many spectacular people in the world.
