The Kennebec Valley Community Action Program is offering the following classes for the 2016 summer/fall season:

• Active Parenting Now, a six-session video and discussion program for parents and care providers of children ages 5-12. The program is designed to help raise responsible children by using effective discipline techniques and encouragement skills. Classes are set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Mondays beginning Sept. 12 at Messalonskee High School in Oakland, or 12:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesdays starting Aug. 10 at Lawrence Public Library in Fairfield.

• Community Nurturing Parenting, a free 10-week program for anyone parenting a child, will focus on and explain: the philosophy and practices of nurturing; ages and stages of growth — infants/toddlers; ways to enhance positive brain development — children/teens; communicating with respect; building self-worth; understanding feelings; understanding and developing family morals, values and rules; praising children and their behavior; alternatives to spanking; and learning positive ways to deal with stress and anger. Classes are set for 9:30-11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays beginning July 11 at Kennebec Valley Community Action Program in Skowhegan; 10-11:30 a.m. Thursdays beginning July 14 at New Hope Church in Solon; and 3-4:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Sept. 19 at KVCAP in Skowhegan.

• Nurturing Fathers, a free 13-week program for any male parenting a child, focuses on and explains: the roots of fathering, nurturing children and self, positive discipline methods, managing anger and resolving conflict, teamwork with partner, balancing work and fathering, and more. Childcare and snacks will be provided. Classes are set for 2-3:30 p.m. July 19, 21, 28, Aug. 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25 and 30, at KVCAP in Skowhegan.

• 1,2,3,4 Parents, for parents of children ages 1-4, offers information on parenting and child behavior for parents and care providers. In this series of three 1.5 hour classes participants can learn discipline methods that work, how to prevent tantrums, establishing routines, and more. The class consists of two video vignettes, discussion and activities. Classes are set for 5:30-7 p.m. Mondays, July 18, 25 and Aug. 1 at KVCAP in Waterville; 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesdays, June 29, July 6 and 13 at KVCAP in Augusta; 10-11:30 a.m. Thursdays, June 23, 30 and July 7 at New Hope Church in Solon; 5-6:30 p.m. Mondays and Thursday, July 11, 14 and 18 at KVCAP in Skowhegan; and 9:30-11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesday, Oct. 3, 5 and 12 at North Elementary School in Skowhegan.
