Readfield Elementary School recognized the winners of its first Bikes For Books, a reading incentive program, on May 20.

Principal Jeff Boston announced the following winners in each grade:

Kindergarten — Jaydon Morissette and Sophie Stevens;

Grade 1 — Mia Conway and Grady Hreben;

Grade 2 — Grace Tweedie and Hunter Colpitt;

Grade 3 — Gavin Tweedie and Emerson Davis;

Grade 4 — Spencer Fike and Marina Friedman;

Grade 5 — Toby Olsen and Rose Jenkins.

The Masons from Lafayette Lodge 48 in Readfield provided the 12 bikes and helmets that were presented to two classmates in each grade. Lodge representatives in attendance included John Lord, Charley Bonney, Tom Milliken, Dan Cronin, and Charles Colegrove.

The program was sponsored by the Grand Lodge of Maine, and locally by WJ Rourke Construction, Saunders Manufacturing and individual donations, as well as bike tune-up assistance from Patrick Welch.
