Garret Schenck Elementary School held an assembly on June 1, hosted by the Masons from the Northern Star Lodge 28 in North Anson, to announce the winners in the Bikes for Books program. The program encourages students to read as many books as they can, for each book read, the student earns a chance to win a new bicycle.

One boy and one girl in each class received a new bicycle, helmet, along with a T-shirt. Twelve bicycles were given out.

A bicycle safety lesson was presented by Officer Michael Pike before the names were drawn for the bicycles. He told the students, “Always wear a helmet, it’s the law!,” according to a news release from the Masons.

Students receiving new bicycles were Kaylee Schinzel and Jesse Cookson in kindergarten, Patience Rowe and Michael Abbott in grade 1, Willow Page and Seth Hansen in grade 2, Lilly Waugh and Matthew Ladd in grade 3, Brooke Dube and Tyler Hansen in grade 4, and Autumn Ladd and Andrew Rowe in grade 5.

The students read a total of 247 books. The Masons that provided this program at the school were Reggie Moody, Ken Ingalls and David Adams.
