Belgrade Regional Conservation Alliance has planned the following summer events at the Maine Lakes Resource Center, 137 Main St.
• Fisheries in the Belgrades will be the topic at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 14. Inland Fisheries & Wildlife Biologist Jason Seiders and an officer from the Maine Warden Service will provide an update on the fisheries of the Belgrade Lakes Region.
• The presidents return is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 27. BRCA President Mel Croft and Maine Lakes Society President Pete Kallin will conduct a presentation that bring you back in time through ice ages, mountain formation and beyond
• Lyme disease in Maine will be discussed at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4. Dr. Beatrice Szantyr, medical director for Maine Lyme, will focus on awareness, risk factors, prevention and symptoms of this tick-borne disease that is steadily increasing in Maine.
• Aquafest is set for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6. Lakes Associations from across the watershed will be at the MLRC and host a variety of education activities for children and their families from a macroinvertebrates touch-tank to a stream table to T–shirt painting.
• The Art and Science of Beekeeping in Maine will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11. Veteran beekeeper Matthew Scott will talk about bee development and the life stages of the three casts: queen, drone and worker and how the structure of a social order is maintained in the hive. He will also touch on how to secure a honey crop and to winter bees properly; which includes how to collect honey, to extract honey, bottle and sell it.
• The Belgrade Regional Conservation Alliance host a disc golf tournament from 7:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Belgrade Lakes Disc Golf Course. In partnership with the Belgrade Lakes Disc Golf Course and the Maine Golf Tour, BRCA will co-host the tournament for participants of all ages (children younger than 13 require adult supervision).
