Falmouth police are investigating what happened to a 67-year-old Portland man who was found in a pool of blood next to his car early Monday morning in the Walmart parking lot.

An officer patrolling the area found the man seriously injured around 3:30 a.m. Monday. Police said the man appeared to be stabbed, but the incident is still under investigation.

“We don’t know if he was the victim of a crime or if he initiated this himself,” said Lt. John Kilbride.

Kilbride said the man was able to speak with the office before losing consciousness.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries.
