On Nov. 8, I will confidently and proudly vote for Henry Beck for state Senate District 16. I have known this young man for more than 10 years and know him as an honest, thoughtful and energetic advocate for working people. I also know that he has actively engaged with the community around issues important to them.

Nearly 10 years ago when we were putting together the first North End Night celebration, I went to Henry looking for help. He not only opened his own wallet, but also found us other funds. Next summer, we will put together our 10th annual celebration and I know Henry Beck was part of its foundation, an investment in our community.

Even more importantly, I know that Henry Beck will lead in creating solutions to the terrible mess the current governor and his party have put us in. If they have their way, all the weight of taxation will fall on the property tax. Henry knows that such a move is fiscally irresponsible. We do not necessarily agree on all issues because that is not necessary. But do I know he will have working people and those less fortunate first and foremost in his mind and actions.

As a progressive actively involved in the Bernie Sanders campaign, I would ask all those self-identified progressives to put some energy into this. It is time to take back the state Senate to deal with the critical issues facing us.

Now I have to go back out and knock on more doors for Henry.
