A live auction will be held Saturday in Hallowell as a fundraiser for the fire tower that a citizens’ group is trying to preserve.
The Hallowell Citizens Initiative Committee will be at Joyce’s restaurant on Water Street from 4 to 8 p.m. Art, antiques and other items will be auctioned off, according to organizer Sandy Stubbs.
All auction proceeds will go to save and restore the fire tower and wooden meeting hall.
The historic Second Street fire station opened in 1829 as a town hall. Now the building is largely known for the leaning white tower added to it near the turn of the 20th century to dry fire hoses.
