OAKLAND — Nate Violette scored a game-high 18 points and collected five steals to lead the Messalonskee boys basketball team to a 54-33 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win over Brewer on Monday afternoon.
Griffin Tuttle added four points, five blocks and nine rebounds in the win for the Eagles (4-2). Chase Warren and James Kouletsis each scored nine points.
Michael Bailey had 11 points for the Witches (3-4).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
MESSALONSKEE 54, BREWER 44: Sophie Holmes scored 20 points as the Eagles (5-0) shook off a slow start to win a KVAC A game at Brewer.
Ally Turner scored 14 points for Messalonskee, which trailed 14-6 after the first quarter and 23-20 at the half before taking the lead in the third quarter. Gabrielle Wener scored 12 points while hitting three 3-pointers.
Courtney Pearson led the Witches (2-5) with 19 points, while Emily Lord had 11.
BOYS HOCKEY
MESSALONSKEE 4, HOULTON/HODGDON 2: Tyler Lewis had a hat trick and figured in all four goals as the Eagles won the Class B North game at Camden National Bank Ice Vault.
Dylan Brown added a goal and two assists for the Eagles (3-2-0), while Dustin Brown chipped in with a pair of assists.
GARDINER 5, YARMOUTH 2: Joe Clark snapped a 2-2 tie through one period with a hat trick and two assists to lead the Tigers to the Class B win at Travis Roy Arena.
Tanner Hebert and Cam Bigelow also scored for Gardiner (3-1-0). Michael Poirier made 20 saves to earn the win between the pipes.
Cooper May and Bill Jacobs had the goals for Yarmouth (2-3-1).
