I’m the proud grandfather of a beautiful, healthy 1-year-old named Freya. She was born with one kidney.
I’m extremely concerned about the implications the health care reform legislation before Congress could have on her.
The House version would have allowed insurers to charge more if she ever loses her coverage and tries to get back on because she has a pre-existing condition.
The Senate version would have allowed states to change coverage requirements so that some of her medical care may not be covered. Or she might have a lifetime limit should she need a transplant or similarly costly intervention at some point.
Congress needs to work together in a bipartisan matter to make meaningful reforms to health care. There shouldn’t be any arbitrary deadline for enactment, especially when it could affect millions of Americans, including my granddaughter Freya.
