Police say that a woman who stopped her vehicle Saturday night along Route 27 in Belgrade was taken to the hospital after the vehicle struck a mailbox and a snowbank.

It was not immediately clear whether the woman, who is from the Belgrade area, needed medical treatment for an injury she suffered in the accident or for an unrelated health problem, said Sgt. Jacob Pierce, of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident was reported to police at 5:26 p.m.

The woman was driving north on Route 27 before the accident, which happened near the intersection with Norman Drive, Pierce said. She was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center with health problems that did not appear to be life-threatening.

Police still were investigating the accident an hour later.
