The name of the 58-year-old man who was struck and killed by a city-owned dump truck early Saturday won’t be released until at least Monday, the city of Portland says.
City spokeswoman Jessica Grondin said in an email response Sunday that she expects Portland police to provide new details about the fatal accident, which took place at 3:46 a.m., on Saturday.
Grondin said the victim was on foot near the Irving gas station and Rusty Lantern Market at 2282 Congress St. and the intersection of Blueberry Road when he was struck by the 2005 Sterling dump truck carrying a load of snow.
Donald Penney, 49, of South Portland was driving the truck. The accident forced Portland police to shut down outer Congress Street in both directions for more than five hours.
Penney is a city employee.
Portland police asked anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call them at 874-8532.
