Article 5 on the Belgrade town meeting warrant should be defeated, as this is of no real benefit to the taxpayer. Our library is already open more hours than any communities our size, and our library budget is already far larger. Check out our neighboring Readfield’s budget.

In my opinion, this article is only on the warrant because an individual has a need, not the taxpayers. We all have needs, especially those retired, disabled, on a fixed income, etc., but we don’t ask the taxpayers for subsidies. These dollars should be going to our real needs — roads, fire/rescue, transfer station, etc. We spend enough now for our fantastic library, for which we owe a big thank-you to the Friends of the Library.
