A Damariscotta man has been arrested followed a years-long investigation into allegations of sexual crimes involving a minor.
Lt. Michael Murphy of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Monday that officers arrested 62-year-old Norman L. Newton Sr. on Sunday.
Detective Terry Michaud charged Newton with gross sexual assault, a felony.
“These charges came after an investigation of numerous offenses over several years in Damariscotta,” Murphy said. “It is believed there are no other persons involved in the case and the victim involved was known to Newton.”
Newton was being held Monday in the Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset on $5,000 cash bail.
