AUGUSTA — A yard sale and open house to raise awareness and money for the LINC Center is planned Saturday.
The LINC Center is a wellness and recovery center where peer and group counseling is available to people with mental health or substance abuse problems. The center also hosts numerous meetings of area groups, including Alcoholics Anonymous.
Officials, through the yard sale and other fundraisers, hope to raise about $25,000 to pay to complete renovation of the 38 Memorial Drive facility.
Gerard FitzGerald, an intern at the center for Motivational Services, the agency that oversees the center, said a section of the building needs renovation to bring it up to date with modern codes and improve access to it by people with disabilities.
The yard sale and open house are planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
FitzGerald said there also will be a free cookout, with food donated by local businesses, from about 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A tent will be available to shelter attendees if it rains.
Items donated for the yard sale include several household items from Betsy’s home decor, clothing, lamps, vases, a refrigerator, air conditioners, a washer and dryer, antiques, toys and stuffed animals.
Several gift cards donated by local businesses will be raffled off as part of the event.
FitzGerald said organizers hope the event also helps raise awareness of the help LINC provides to people in the community.
