A Raymond woman was killed Monday morning in a head-on crash on Cape Road when the vehicle she was driving veered into oncoming traffic, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Dioni Javiera Araya Arriagada, 30, was heading north on a curve near 102 Cape Road in Rayond around 8:40 a.m., when the 2007 Subaru Outback she was driving traveled off the right side of the road, Capt. Scott Stewart said of the initial investigation.
She then overcorrected, steering the vehicle to the left and crossing the center line into the path of a southbound Ford F550 dump truck that was towing a trailer, Stewart said in a written statement.
Raymond Fire and Rescue workers attempted life-saving measures on Araya Arriagada, but she was pronounced dead at scene. She was traveling alone. The truck was driven by Franklin Everett, 70, of Bridgton. He and a passenger in the truck were uninjured.
Both vehicles were totaled. A section of the road was closed for three hours following the crash and a detour was set up around the scene.
The sheriff’s accident reconstruction unit and Maine State Police continue to investigate the crash.
