WINDHAM — A grand jury has handed up an indictment of a Maine man in connection with a fatal tow truck crash last year.
Police say the crash took place Nov. 13 in Windham. They say 49-year-old Manford Rideout, of Windham, was driving a tow truck eastbound when he crossed the center line and hit two oncoming vehicles.
Police say the crash killed 34-year-old Adam Clark, of Augusta. The case was presented to the grand jury early this week. Rideout was indicted on manslaughter and other charges Friday.
Rideout was arrested Nov. 14 for violation of conditions of release and has remained in custody at the Cumberland County Jail. A spokesman for the jail said he did not know if Rideout is represented by an attorney.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
