My wife and I just survived the automated phone system and registered for COVID vaccination. As with other medical contacts, the phone is “answered” by a tape, and getting results is more or less of a challenge, depending on your ability to push the right buttons on cue. We wonder what becomes of someone who’s not experienced with automated programs.
Our U.S. health system is the most costly in the world. Why not spread some of that wealth around by replacing most of the answering machines with persons? Call centers seem to be worth their cost for promoting sales, so they should be worth funding where matters of life and death may be concerned.
