ST. ALBANS — A Ripley man faces a charge after allegedly being found in possession of an illegal substance.
Somerset County Chief Deputy Michael Mitchell said in a phone call Thursday afternoon that around 1:18 p.m., Dept. Logan Roberts observed a blue 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck operating on Pond Road with a loud exhaust towing a trailer that was missing a wheel.
When he stopped the vehicle for the infractions, Dept. Roberts found Bernie W. Buker, 46, of Ripley operating the vehicle. Found in the center console of the vehicle was half a gram of fentanyl, Mitchell said.
Buker was arrested without incident at the scene and transported to Somerset County Jail in East Madison, where he faces an unlawful possession of scheduled W drugs charge, which is a class D crime.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
