FARMINGTON — The Franklin Memorial Hospital medical staff has established a scholarship fund for high school seniors.
One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student from each of the following schools: Mt. Abram High in Salem, Mt. Blue High in Farmington, Rangeley Lakes Regional and Spruce Mountain High in Jay.
If a school does not have a scholarship applicant, the scholarship will be awarded to a qualified applicant from one of the other schools.
The applicant should demonstrate a strong motivation to pursue a health care career, along with academic excellence and a dedication to community service.
Application requirements include a personal essay displaying future career goals; a current academic transcript; and two letters of recommendation: one from a health care professional and another from a high school educator.
The applications can be mailed to the Medical Staff Office, Franklin Memorial Hospital, 111 Franklin Health Commons, Farmington, ME 04938. The application deadline is Saturday, May 1.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
