A St. Albans man was arrested on Interstate 295 in Portland on multiple charges Tuesday night after driving through a construction zone, Maine State Police said in a news release.

Joseph Simonet, 36, of St. Albans, was arrested on charges of operating under the influence, driving to endanger and other civil traffic violations after allegedly driving through a lane closed due to construction.

Around 10 p.m. Tuesday evening, Simonet drove a gray 2017 Jeep Cherokee through Exit 5 in Portland, which was closed due to construction. Simonet drove around the cones blocking the exit. A construction worker was in the area when Simonet took the exit where other members were working. Sgt. Chris Farley stopped Simonet’s vehicle.

There were no injuries.

Simonet was taken to the South Portland Police Department and released on bail, police said.
