Edward “Eddie” Clark
SMITHFIELD – With great sadness we announce the passing of Edward “Eddie” Clark on Monday, April 26, 2021. He was the husband and best friend to Shirley Clark (Belanger) for 53 years, father and hero to Bridget Weese (Clark), proud and doting Papa to Mackenzie Caldwell (Weese) and Lyndsay Day (Weese), and great- grandfather to Camden Caldwell, Kade Caldwell, and Chandler Day. In the early 90’s he became father-in-law and partner in crime to Daniel Weese, with whom he had many great adventures, and later welcomed grandson-in- laws Nicholas Caldwell and Stephen Day into his life.
Eddie was born to Victor and Etta Clark (Knowles) on April 27, 1944. He grew up in Oakland with his siblings Victor “Whitey” Clark, Patty Nason (Clark), Christine Lambert (Clark) and Geraldine Clark. As a young man he loved roller skating, fishing with his Dad, and dancing. Later in life, he and his wife enjoyed camping, and camped for many years at Abnaki Campground. Eddie always had candy and lollipops in his pockets, and was fondly known as the Candyman. He loved talking about the time he spent in Germany with his Army buddies, and also enjoyed gambling, playing cribbage, hunting, and motorcycling with close friend, Bob Roy. Eddie spent most afternoons talking and arguing with his Uncle Arthur “Jr” Gooldrup, who was like a second father to him, and on Friday you could find him playing cards with his lifetime friend Jeff Meader.
What brought Ed the greatest joy was his grandchildren. The bond he had with them was truly amazing, and difficult to put into words. To say they had him wrapped around their finger would be an understatement.
With so many wonderful memories to share, Shirley and Bridget would love family and friends to join them in a celebration of Ed’s life on June 19 at 11 a.m. at the American Legion in Oakland, where he served for many years as Sergeant at Arms.
