Frank Smith

GARDINER – It is with deep sorrow that Frank transitioned at his home on May 28, 2021. He was born in Gardiner on July 14, 1931, the son of Fred and Lillian Toothaker-Smith.

Following his graduation from Gardiner High School, he and his father founded Kennebec Well Drilling Co. He drilled his last well at 75 years old. Frank enjoyed flying, obtaining his private pilots license in 1961. He married his second wife, Linda, in a hot air balloon in 1981. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, draft horse shows, and building radio-controlled airplanes.

Predeceasing him were his two brothers, Irvin and Richard, and a sister; Eva.

Frank is survived by his wife of 40 years; a son Steve Smith, stepson Marcus Niedner; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

We were blessed with our loving support team from Beacon Hospice, his extraordinary nurse Cheryl, and Wholistic Home Care for their loving support and comforting oils. These two groups made it possible for his painless transition.

At his request services will be private.
