WINTHROP — Second-seeded Winthrop (12-0) won the first two singles matches and collected a doubles victory to shake off No. 3 Madison 3-2 on Friday and earn a spot in the Class C South regional final next week.
Winthrop’s Josh Deanda-Whaley defeated Jaden Spaudling 10-6 in the first singles match, and teammate Noah Grube topped Isaac Ouellette 10-2 in No. 2 singles.
In No. 2 doubles, the Ramblers’ Sam Fuller and Robby Feeney teamed up to beat Austin Gross and Justin Currie 10-7.
Madison’s Tanner Mongeon defeated Winthrop’s Nathan Hachey 10-1 in No. 3 singles, while Christian Cabrera and Kayden Hibbard earned a point for the Bulldogs in No. 1 doubles by beating Adam Hardy and Jacob Smith.
The Ramblers will face either top-seeded Waynflete or No. 4 North Yarmouth Academy in the C South final, currently scheduled for Wednesday at Lewiston High School.
