Voters across the Waterville area went to the polls Tuesday to vote on a number of local issues, including on school budgets, municipal races and other community questions.

Here is a roundup of unofficial results, as reported by municipal clerks.

REGIONAL SCHOOL UNIT 18

The RSU 18 budget passed, 523-195.

• BELGRADE: Residents voted 116-47 in favor of the RSU 18 budget.

Belgrade residents also voted in favor of three town referendum items to appropriate $25,000 to construct a cement pad for storage containers at the transfer station (144-20), appropriate $45,000 for the purchase of a one-ton facility maintenance truck (146-18) and to accept prepayment of taxes without interest (152-9 with three blank ballots).

• CHINA: Residents voted 204-68 in favor of the RSU 18 budget.

China voters also voted 135-138, with five blank ballots, against raising and appropriating $26,471 for FirstPark expenses. Residents voted 174-87 in favor of selling land some wanted to turn into a park.

• OAKLAND: Residents voted 67-34 in favor of the RSU 18 budget.

• ROME: Residents voted 89-23 in favor of the RSU 18 budget and 97-12 with three blank ballots to withdraw from the Kennebec Regional Development Authority.

• SIDNEY: Residents voted 47-23 in favor of the RSU 18 budget.

MAINE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE DISTRICT 54

Voters within MSAD 54 ultimately supported the proposed $39,390,496 district budget, with 528-222 in favor.

“Never have we have such unprecedented times,” MSAD 54 Superintendent Jon Moody said in an email Wednesday. “We will continue to be responsible in our spending moving forward, focusing on our classrooms and our students, and continuing to ensure that MSAD 54 provides the highest quality of education for our communities. One more mountain climbed.”

• CANAAN: Residents voted 22-33 against the budget.

• CORNVILLE: Residents voted 15-5 in favor of the budget.

• MERCER: Residents voted 17-19 against the budget.

• NORRIDGEWOCK: Residents voted 37-3 in favor of the budget.

• SMITHFIELD: Residents voted 30-5 in favor of the budget.

• SKOWHEGAN: Residents voted 407-157-1 in favor of the budget.

In contested elections, residents chose Harold Bigelow and incumbent Todd Smith to fill the open seats on the Board of Selectmen.

Donald Kinney Sr. was selected as the town’s new road commissioner.

REGIONAL SCHOOL UNIT 74

Voters in North Anson-based RSU 74 ultimately decided to OK the district’s proposed $10.4 million budget, a nearly $50,000 hike from the previous year. The total vote in favor was 92-64.

• ANSON: Residents voted 34-19 in favor of the RSU 74 budget.

• EMBDEN: Residents voted 20-14 in favor of the budget.

• NEW PORTLAND: Residents voted 11-18 against the budget.

• SOLON: Residents voted 27-13 in favor of the budget.

MAINE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE DISTRICT 59

• MADISON: Residents voted 128-33 in favor of MSAD 59’s proposed $10.373 million budget.

In contested races, Craig Parker was elected a five-year term on the board of directors for Madison Electric Works.

VASSALBORO COMMUNITY SCHOOL

Residents elected Christopher French to the town’s board of selectmen and Jolene Clark-Gamage to the school board.

Residents also adopted the Vassalboro School Committee budget by a 137-18 vote. Voters also adopted a marijuana business ordinance and decided to continue the validation referendum process for the school.

WINSLOW PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Winslow residents voted 121-50 in favor of the Winslow Public Schools budget.

MAINE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE DISTRICT 49

Voters in Fairfield-based MSAD 49 approved a $27.63 million budget, with 284-167 in favor.

• ALBION: Residents voted 27-8 in favor of the MSAD 49 district budget. Voters also approved the funding for the district’s nutritional program 29-5, and the adult education program 24-10.

• BENTON: Residents voted 35-27 to approve the budget. Voters also approved funding for the district’s nutritional program 43-22, and the adult education program 41-24.

Residents also voted in a special election on seven articles related to the Land Use Ordinance, all of which were approved by voters.

• CLINTON: Residents voted 124-82 in favor of the district budget. They also approved funding for the nutritional program 157-60, and the adult education program 136-81.

Voters approved the majority of the articles in the town budget, but rejected Article 37 by a vote of 122-88. If it had passed the article would have allowed the town to increase the property tax levy if “the approved municipal budget results in a property tax commitment that is higher than the state’s limit.”

Clinton also voted on two selectmen positions. Current Vice Chair Stephen Hatch was reelected to a two-year term. Hatch received 116 votes, while Stephen Herbert received 84 votes. Current Selectman Ronnie Irving was narrowly defeated by Michael Hachey for a three-year term. Hachey received 106 votes to Irving’s 105. There were also two votes cast for write in candidates.

There was also a vote on a three-year seat representing Clinton on the MSAD 49 school board. Melissa Michaud defeated incumbent Terry Knowles, 134-53.

• FAIRFIELD: Residents voted 98-50 to approve the budget. Voters also approved the funding for the nutritional program 115-37, and the adult education program 104-48.

Voters passed all 31 articles of the town’s budget. Residents also voted to fill two seats that represent Fairfield on the MSAD 49 school board. Three candidates — Joel Bouchard, Danielle Boutin and Marlisa Golder — ran for the seats. Bouchard and Boutin, who is currently on the school board and serves as its chair, won seats with 91 and 85 votes respectively. Golder received 73 votes.

MAINE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIVE DISTRICT 53

Voters approved the $13.02 million budget for Pittsfield-based MSAD 53, with 100-44 in favor.

• BURNHAM: Residents narrowly approved the budget in a 5-4 vote, and voted 5-4 in favor of continuing the district’s budget referendum process for the next three years. Residents voted 4-5 to not approve funding for the district’s adult education program.

• DETROIT: Residents rejected all three questions on the district budget referendum. The overall budget was rejected 3-14, the adult education funding was rejected 4-13 and the question on continuing the budget referendum process for the next three years was not approved in a 6-11 vote.

• PITTSFIELD: Residents overwhelmingly approved the district budget in a 92-26 vote. Adult education funding was approved 99-19, and the question on the budget referendum process was approved 70-24.

Pittsfield also held a special election for an at-large Town Council seat, but the results of the race were not available Wednesday as the Town Office is closed on Wednesdays.
