in 1907-,Val, a gifted, intelligent schoolteacher, has given up teaching for the glamor and glitz of vaudeville and a cheap lower Manhattan hotel room. His wife has visions of him settling down in “a little white house” and teaching at a small school on Staten Island, along with their precocious daughter, who he tutors, whose latest antic shocks the visiting headmaster/minister.
Additionally, a visit by an old friend, now the mistress of a rich sugar daddy, prove an additional shock. In the end, the selfless wife throws in the towel and is content to tag along the circuit wherever her husband and daughter may lead.
