PITTSFIELD — The Maine Cheese Festival is to be held Sept. 12 at Manson Park.
Partnering with the Maine Office of Tourism, the Maine Cheese Guild aims to share the art of cheesemaking and spread the love of Maine cheese with their premier event.
The event is to include music, food trucks, a beer tent, and an opportunity to ‘Meet the Makers’ — or to put it another way, meet some cute goats.
Beyond the fun and the tasty treats, this year’s festival will also shine a spotlight on the Mainers who are making exceptional cheese with its first Cheese Awards.
In the meantime, the Maine Cheese Guild on July 25 is to hold Open Farm Day, an opportunity to learn more about Maine cheesemakers and their farms. Participants include Maggie’s Farm at Mulberry Farm, Bowdoinham; Lakin’s Gorges Cheese, Friendship; Abraham’s Goat Farm and Dairy, Newport; Smiling Hill Farm, Westbrook; and Balfour Farm, Pittsfield.
Cheese lovers can also visit sheep and goats at Fuzzy Udder Creamery in Whitefield, a Maine Cheese member that offers regular ticketed farm visits.
