Georgie Belle (Stratton) Gagne

AUGUSTA – Georgie Belle (Stratton) Gagne, 79, passed away peacefully at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta on June 28, 2021.

She was born in Augusta on May 10, 1942, the daughter of Charles and Eula (Wallace) Stratton.

She attended Belgrade schools, earning her diploma through correspondence, and lived in Augusta most of her adult life. Georgie had a lifelong love of reading that she imparted to others in her role as a childcare provider. She particularly enjoyed memoirs, including those written by political figures and actors. She loved dancing, Elvis Presley, George Jones, bird watching, David Ortiz, salt and pepper shakers, grilled cheese, Canada mints, Blue Bloods, and classic westerns.

Georgie was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Richard “Tom” Gagne; her son, Dennis Hutchings Jr.; brothers Wallace, Henry, Charles Jr., Paul, and Alpheus, and sisters Irene, Eula, and Eleanor.

She is survived by her daughter, Glenna Belanger and husband Rick of Winthrop, daughter, Penny and husband Ed of Williamsburg, Iowa; brother, Dennis and sister, Faye, both of Sidney; grandchildren Kristin French of Oakland, Juliet Plouff of Salt Lake City, David Plouff of Portland, and Jordan Belanger of Winthrop; nephews Ralph and James Barrows of Augusta, niece, Jennifer of Boston; great-grandchildren Hannah and AJ; great-great-grandchild Amiya; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Those wishing to attend a farewell to Georgie are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, July 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta. A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, July 30 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Cemetery, Townsend Road., Augusta.
